Embellish challenge

Good morning! We didn't get too much snow this past weekend, although it did snow continually. Lucky for us it was just too warm to stick! (a few inches...) (The quote for today is from "Daily Strategies" by US Games Systems, Inc)

My Quote for today is:

Doing little things well is a step towards doing big things better. Harry F. Banks

This is my card for the current Embellish Challenge.
You are supposed to use these colors, and a border. Even though the colors made me think of Easter, and I have Mother's day cards to make, I still ended up making a birthday card. (Although I guess I could make it a card for Mother's day!) After my last post, I'm keeping this one short!

Supplies:Cardstock: Best Occasions Pre-cut card, The Paper Company (yellow, white); Patterned Paper: PSX (Cupid print); Specialty Paper: The Paper Company (Starburst Translucent), Watercolor by Canson, Green vellum (unknown); Sentiment/Rubber Stamp(s): (All) Inkadinkado (Birthday Wishes); Accents: butterfly from Oriental Trading; Ribbon: Sheer Pink from AC Moore; Ink: Staz on (Brown); (Other) Color medium: Perfect Pearls (Forever Green), Watercolor pencils by Kimberly; PK Glitz (white pearls), Stardust clear by Jellyroll

Thanks for your visit today. As always, I appreciate all comments!

Using Scraps...Part I, Caardvark Sticker challenge2

SCROLL DOWN FOR CARDS FOR THE CAARDVARK STICKER CHALLENGE2

Using Scraps, and other "older" embellishments....

Hello!! I have been trying to post more frequently, and I must say, the weather is cooperating even when other factors in my life don't! ;) (quote for today is from "Daily strategies" by US Games Systems, Inc.)

My quote for today is:

You can't get the best from people by lighting a fire beneath them;
find a way to light a fire within them. Bob Nelson

Check out this post if you have the time. The blog is "Simplicity".
This is something I have been wanting to do even before I came across this post:

Check it out if you can. It's not about whether or not you like her style (which I think is great), but what she says about hoarding...now, if you are a true crafter, go on and admit you know at least a little about hoarding.

That gorgeous paper you just HAD to have, that you even bought at full price (one sheet only), and it has been waiting for months (or years) for just the right project...Those great metal charms and frames (or plastic ones)...you bought them to make cards for your childs teachers when he was in 5th or 6th grade, and you waited so long to make the cards that year- that you ended up doing a CAS (clean and simple card) cause you ran out of time.

Well, now darnit, your "child", is in high school! No one makes gifts for high school teachers, do they? ....Oh, yes..., I was supposed to be talking in general, wasn't I?... Well, I think you get my drift.

I'm trying to start using up some of my supplies. And any one who knows me, knows- it will not be easy... But today is a start. Every time I get back to "scraps", I will make it a continuation of this blog. And yes, all paper used on these cards are paper "scraps".

I keep a dozen folders in a file bin near my feet. Each one is filled with a different color, sitting in this crate. I love it! I used to keep them stored on a shelf across the room. I used them every once in a while. Now I will go there first, and then if I don't find what I'm looking for, I will go to the full size paper (for all projects). This has really been working for me. Plus it makes it so much easier to file "scraps" after a project (yeah, right)...

So, some of the papers you will see in these posts is left over from projects I completed in the past 5-6 years. I know it is sad, but you have to start somewhere, right? And my fellow blogger Susan over at Symplicity, inspired me to push on to the next point, which was (1) stop talking about "it", and (2) start "being about it"...
I guess she was sort of my "Friday trigger" : ) (Thanks Susan!)...and so it begins...Let me know what you think!...

On a side note in the adventures of "Rachel-land": Wouldn't you know it!...

While working in my craft room, I am listening to mellow music, and enjoying the scent of liquid potpourri I have in a simmer pot. (uh,oh...) Well, I bought a new chair (the rolling kind) and I absolutely love it! But, last night the legs of it got caught up in my electrical cords- mainly the simmer pot cord. I had no idea, and when I turned the chair around, the entire pot and it's contents flew off my craft table all over everything! For some reason I had placed 5 of my "newly minted - scrap" cards where I have never put them before (directly in the line of fire-why???), but they were all ruined (lots of things had to be cleaned, but of course, that was the only un-salvageable casualty). I took a photo of the cards before they went in the trash, so you can see for yourself. (Helen, this was my first time FINALLY using your beautiful crocheted flowers, yes! those three were ruined!- the sad face...) The picture will be at the very bottom of this post....

I apologize in advance for the photography this time. It was hard to photo those beaded sentiments. I did the best I could...

FINALLY...The reason the base of these cards are all chocolate is no reason other than I was working on a challenge for Embellish magazine. That was the reason I was using these particular stickers. Something in my head told me to use up the whole sheet. So that is what all these cards have in common. They all came from the same SEI Sparkler sticker sheet. I bought them at convention last July real cheap, and now I know why. The beads come off like crazy....

Without further ado, here are my "scrap cards..."

Embellish Magazine Color Birthday Challenge

Embellish Color/ Birthday Challenge!

So...I have been wanting to do an Embellish Challenge again, but just haven't had much time. I'm sure most of you can relate. Anyway, I kept looking at this one, and finally got it together! Whew, these colors were hard for me. I loved the DT cards on their site, and especially the one by Marianna Grigsby. It was such a creative way to use this color palette. So... I gave it my best shot. I'm going to send this out for a very special birthday, but I can't say to whom!... :)

This is more to the true color of the card. The close up was to show the beaded sentiment. I could not photograph it without the glare because of the beads.

Supplies: cardstock: The Paper Company; Patterned paper: unknown, sentiments: SEI Sparklers; Stamps: Stampcraft (chirp); Accents: buttons (unknown), tree hand cut from cork; Fiber: Floss by Bazzill; ink: Rubber Stampede (black); Other color medium: markers by JoAnn's crafts; Tools: Photo corner punch byEK Success; Templates: cuttlebug (corners), sizzix (grass)

Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your comments! Rae

Moxie Fab World "Taintor-tude" Challenge

Here are my entries for the Moxie Fab World "Taintor-tude" Challenge. I was going to do more than one post, but I am so sleepy I just want to get these loaded. I did 8 cards.

Now, it was certainly fun working on these cards, but I was absolutely out of my element, here. Not comfortable working with vintage, but I do like the look when others do it...

OK, well, I hope you enjoy....

(1) Bon voyage

She's doin' the "Miss America wave" cause she doesn't want her hand to be too tired to hold that drink!...

Supplies: Cardstock: precut by Paper Reflections (Natural), The Paper Company; Patterned paper: My wild life paper pack by Colorbok; Accents: sun by Sandylion Essentials; Cruise Ship by K & Company; Photo: by Quantity Postcards

(2) Carwash (or "I'm on the outside lookin' in...)

Somehow Dad figures out how to get the whole family involved in washing the car, but Mom?, well...

Supplies: Cardstock: precut by Paper Reflections (Natural), The Paper Company, Bazzill; Patterned paper: DCWV; Accents: mini leaves by Dollar Store; Photo: By Laszlo Willinger

(3) The 20% (or...She came up short...)

Looks like this couple stole away to the only place in town that doesn't allow necking. Now I guess if you have to explain it, it doesn't count, but I will anyway. I saw a movie where they explained that if you are with your significant other and you have "80%" of your needs being met, you are doing good. However, there are some people that leave the relationship for the person that can satisfy the other "20%" that their mate just couldn't do. But in the end, that's what you end up with, the 20% instead of the 80%. Think about it....(hummmmmmm...)

Supplies: Cardstock: precut by Paper Reflections (Natural); Patterned paper: DCWV ; Accents: flower brad unknown, paper flower by Prima; Ribbon: pink satin from AC Moore, Tools: Border punch by Fiskars, Photo: 1920 Unknown Photographer

(4) On Her Pedestal

She's posing like Barbie, and if he thinks for one moment that her hands on that lawnmower mean shes gonna start pushin' it, he better think again!...

Supplies: Cardstock: precut by Paper Reflections (Natural), The Paper Company; Patterned paper: Blue Jeans by Paper Pizazz, Rust stripe unknown; Sentiment: by Repeat Impressions; Accents: fabric leaves unknown; Photo: 1989 by Quantity Postcards, Plant pedestal graphic by Plant Stand Store

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(5) Jok-her-face
I'm sorry, but her face sooo reminds me of the Joker from the Batman movies. ...
All I could think of was Joan Rivers and Botox!
Supplies: Cardstock: precut by Paper Reflections (Natural), The Paper Company ; Patterned paper: Sweet Pea and Rose Stripe by The Paper Company Solid Paper: Two sided green by We R Memory Keepers (Canister) ; Accents: Fresh baked rolls in basket by Sulyn Pot Luck Supper Cook book Appetizing Accents; Ribbon/Fiber: Creme Trim from AC Moore, Photo: 1986 by Quantity Postcards
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(6) Fishing is a "trip" with Friends and Family

OK, I confess. He was actually holding up a shoe! But I replaced it with this wrench. It's pretty much the same difference, isn't it?

Supplies: Cardstock: precut by Paper Reflections (Natural), The Paper Company ; Patterned paper: Unknown (DCWV?); Accents: Wrench by Sandylion Essentials; Ribbon/Fiber: twine from AC Moore, Photo: 1949 by Ralph Bartholomew

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(7) The "Turkey"
I discussed this one with my sister. I think this one tells my age because when I asked my son about it, he had no idea that a man would EVER be called a "turkey". It did not comprehend for his 15 year old brain. But when I was coming up, not only were they called "turkeys", but they were even called "jive turkeys"...go figure...
Supplies: Cardstock: precut by Paper Reflections (Natural), The Paper Company ; Patterned paper: Unknown (DCWV?); Accents: Turkey by Sulyn Pot Luck Supper/ Cook book Appetizing Accents; Ribbon/Fiber: glitter ruffle from AC Moore, Photo: by Quantity Post Cards
(8) The Blind Date
Well, I saved my favorite for last. This is a classic case of "Men are from mars, and Women are from Venus..." There are so many times that we send wrong signals or misinterpret conversation and we don't even realize it. I remember a man asked me out once (many moons ago) and I let him know I wasn't interested. He was really shocked and said he thought I liked him. When I asked him how or why he came to that conclusion- he said simply because I smiled at him, and talked to him. (HUHHHH!?!) After that it was strictly hello and goodbye.....This photo just reminded me of those occasions.
Supplies: Cardstock: precut by Paper Reflections (Natural), The Paper Company ; Patterned paper: We R Memory Keepers (Beach Ball); Accents: Buttons Unknown (Red, Blue and Yellow); Bubble Sentiments computer generated; Photo: by Quantity Post Cards
